Pastor's Thoughts - January 2021

January 2021

A Thought from Pastor Bryson,

Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfector of our faith… (Hebrews 12:1-2 CSB).

By the grace and mercy of God we have made it to the beginning of the New Year, 2021. Last year was a rough one to say the least. Unfortunately, some of the trials of last year have carried over to this year as we are still dealing with Covid-19, but there is now a vaccine and prayerfully, it will help tremendously. On the political scene, a new administration will be taking over and hopefully there will be less drama and acrimony.

But we thank God for seeing us to the beginning of this New Year. A New Year filled with all sorts of hopes and possibilities. The days, weeks, and months that lie ahead are all unchartered territory. With great anticipation we look forward to what God is going to do with us and through us as we continue our journey of faith through this fallen world.

The writer of Hebrews offers timeless words of encouragement to the saints of God. He says, “Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus…”. Surely by now we know that perseverance is needed to make it in life. Jesus warned us that in this world there will be trials (John 16:33). The Bible teaches us that we are engaged in ongoing spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:10-12). But thank God, He is ever with us through His indwelling Holy Spirit (John 14:16-18).

The key to our well-being in the midst of all that is going on is to keep our focus on Jesus. It is our testimony that He has brought us thus far and He will see us through to the end. But we must keep our focus on Him. Let us not forget His death, burial, and resurrection. He has purchased our freedom from sin and has guaranteed us victory now and in the life to come.

Thank you, Lord, for bringing us to 2021. Our faith is in You and as long as we keep our faith in You and our focus on You, we will make it, come what may. Meditate on these words of hope from The Tony Evans Study Bible:

No matter the situation, your Savior is bigger and stronger. Keep your eyes on Him.

Have a blessed 2021 all to His glory!
