A Thought from Pastor Bryson,
The world we live in is filled with a lot of hurt people who are hurting other people. I wonder what it would be like if more “good” people did good things for others. Surely, that would make a difference. In his devotional book, Give Us This Day: A Devotional Guide for Daily Living, LeRoy Brownlow wrote this piece – “Doing Good,” may it be helpful in making this old a little better:
{Who went about doing good? Acts 10:38
This passage has reference to Christ. Every footprint He left on the sands of sand point towards doing good. If we would walk in those prints, we must do good. Christianity demands more than confession. It requires that good be done.
Trying to get to heaven in a vessel of selfishness – help me only – is about like trying to sail the Atlantic Ocean in a paper sack.
It was easy for Jesus to do good because He was good, and that’s the secret of doing good. Flowing wells don’t have to be pumped.
Unless good comes out of us to help others, there’s not much good in us. Understandably, the better we are, the more good we do.
Doing good is one argument the atheist can’t knock. So the words of John Wesley are very pertinent:
Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.
By doing good you give this old earth a little semblance of heaven. The good we do never dies. It lives on and on after we are gone. “They may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them” (Revelation 14:13).}
My prayer for us is Lord, help us to live each day doing good toward others…
